Ashton based Arcades Shopping Centre have announced a yearlong partnership with local charity, Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind, naming them their ‘Charity of the Year’. The North-West shopping centre will be supporting and raising funds for the mental health charity throughout 2019 in the hopes of raising awareness for both the charity itself and the wider issue of mental health.
Arcades Shopping Centre had previously worked with the local Mind charity during their successful ‘Gift of Giving’ Christmas social media campaign. The two winners of the competition won a £100 gift hamper for a nominated loved one as well as the opportunity to donate £100 to a local charitable cause. Both winners chose Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind and the charity was invited to the centre to collect their £200 cheque.
TOG Mind is a local branch of the larger Mind charity which lobbies government and local authorities on the behalf of people living with mental health issues. The branch has been a registered charity since 1978.
Their mission is to provide the best possible quality mental health services in their local community across areas such as prevention, early intervention and primary care.
Lynne Picken, Arcades Shopping Centre’s Centre Manager, said: “We’re excited to announce that we will be working with Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind throughout 2019. They provide an incredibly important service to the local community so we’re thrilled to be able to support them in any way we can. We hope to be able to raise as much awareness as possible over the coming months, for both the charity and the wider topic of mental health.”
The charity provides a wide range of services to the local community including counselling, group therapy and training courses. The charity also offers specialist children services for those aged 8 and upwards.
Last year Arcades partnered with local community interest group, Infinity, who offer support services specialising in a range of community based initiatives, including: housing and homelessness, debt, bereavement, poverty, isolation, substance misuse and anti-social behaviour.
TOG Mind Fundraising and Marketing Senior Manager, Jason Bromley, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Arcades Shopping Centre, Ashton for picking us as their charity of the year and we are looking forward to working with the team and the public over the next 12 months, to raise awareness of mental health and the local support available through Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind”.
